Will You Be Allowed To Vote?...
You have until Tuesday 18 June 2024 to register to vote if you have not already done so…. https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
At this UK General Election you will require Voter ID if you are voting in person. https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voting.../voter-id
Will you be allowed to vote? We do postal votes as I’m never sure if I’ll be able to get out to vote, and that cancels out the question of presenting 'suitable' ID.
The present Government changed the rules around UK elections, and because of these changes - insisting on very specific forms of photo voter ID - many people could be turned away from voting.
We can’t stop the Government’s plans from going ahead, but we can help prevent millions from being locked out of our democracy by taking individual action on this – making sure that each of us is registered to vote, and takes the right form of ID with us to the Polling Booth – if we can. Some folk don’t have, or have access to, acquiring the means to have the right kind of ID. What happened to ‘One ‘man’ one vote’?
Voting matters – a lot – it’s pretty much the only way the average person can play a part in how their country is governed.
I must admit that I was amused when Boris was denied his right to vote at the last local elections until he went home and came back with 'suitable' ID. 'Do as I say, not as I do' - could be said to be part of Tory policy - remember 'Partygate'? Remember a lot of things from the last 14 years.

These two ‘facts’
Shouldn’t co-exist
But they do
That’s British Society today

I WON’T!
I won’t buy a massive telly
I won’t pay £300 for a gizmo
That jiggles my legs about.
And I WON’T have a holiday
On a massive Cruise Liner.
WHY?
There’s Covid, and a Cost of Living Crisis
Though the Ad-men and the Money-men
Want us to act otherwise
Contradictions.
Extreme wealth.
Extreme poverty.
In one land.
Contradictions.
We’re stepping back in time.
We need to seek balance.

We ‘Care’
Are said to be
A ‘Caring Society’
Old Folks Homes
Are now ‘Care Homes’
And those who work in them
Are ‘Carers’.
People who work in ‘Caring Professions’
Are expected to do so
Because they ‘Care’
And so
Are expected to not ‘Care’
About low pay.
A Caring Society
But -
We’re not -
We don’t -
Care.
As long as those with Covid
Are in hospital
Where we can’t see them
We don’t Care.
We gather together -
And have parties.
As long as the ice is melting
And the fires are burning -
Elsewhere
We don’t Care.

We’re now
Not allowed
To say
Or do
Certain things.
It’s known as ‘Political Correctness’
Though it’s not political
It’s ideological.
And the incorrectness
Is still happening.
Bad attitudes to ‘Others’
Abuse of positions of power –
It’s still there
It’s even made official
By our Government
“Don’t abuse those who are different -
Leave that to us.”

The Chancellor of the Exchequer’s wife
Lives in India
So do I
I see her there, often.
We use the same laundry.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer
Handles our money
Making best use of it
In the interests of the nation.
I Lie.
I suppose it could be said
That he knows how
To make best use
Of large amounts of money.
Just depends on whose money it is
And in whose interests.
