Luscious-looking Fungi….
It’s the time of year when fungi start popping up out of no-where.
I’m fascinated by them – not a plant, not an animal - they have their very own niche in the life of our world.
I’ve previously written about the varied forms of fungi….

A couple of Wax-caps have turned up in our gravel….
A friend named them ‘Jelly-bean Plants' which prompted me to remind folk of the wise words of Terry Pratchett….
‘All Fungi are edible. Some fungi are only edible once.’

The Shimmer Of Beetle’s Wings……
The following was posted on a friend’s Facebook page. I can’t credit the author, as it doesn’t say who wrote it! I also don’t think I can post the image, as it’s probably copyright. It’s on the National Trust FB page….

…and is well worth looking at.
“Famous actress Ellen Terry wore this shimmering dress in the 1888 production of Macbeth.
Decorated in more than 1,000 beetle wings, it was even immortalised in a painting by John Singer Sargent Ellen worked closely with costume designer Alice Comyns Carr to bring out Lady Macbeth's persona in everything she wore - this particular piece was designed to invoke fear as she walked on stage, giving the appearance of a serpent's scales.
Catch it on display at Smallhythe Place in Kent before it's put away for conservation 'rest' from 3 Nov.
