Biology…..From ‘Unbound’……Rousay Tales - Part Two….

by Bernie Bell - 09:57 on 10 May 2024

Biology…..

I’m marvelling at biology.

An old friend of mine has what the Medics refer to as a ‘sleeping’ kidney. To replace the function of that one, small, organ he needs to go for dialysis for 3 hours, twice a week.

Meanwhile, billions of people are living their lives, going about their business, with their kidneys just doing the job they’re meant to do.

We don’t think about it – best not to really – all those parts of us, functioning, keeping us alive, keeping us going without conscious instructions from us.

I marvel at it.

And pray that his kidney will ‘wake up’ soon!

From ‘Unbound’….

“We are delighted to re-launch Jackie Morris’s gorgeous fable, Song of the Golden Hare.

Originally published in 2013, this exquisite illustrated book has been unavailable since 2020 and contains one of Jackie Morris's most popular and enchanting stories - a fable for all ages. Here is Jackie talking about it.

But others are searching for the golden queen of hares, including a hunter with two hounds, one silver, one black. Can two children, on their own, keep the golden queen safe from the man and his hounds?

As always with Jackie, the ravishing images, in watercolour and gouache, enhance the energy and excitement of the story.

And, in a wonderful example of life imitating art, since Jackie painted the book she has discovered there really are golden hares with blue eyes living on Rathglin Island off the north coast of Ulster. They are a rare genetic variant of the Irish Hare (Lepus timidus hibernicus). Irish hares are the only member of the rabbit or hare family that are native to Ireland and have lived there for the last 30,000 years.

Just another reason to love this magical book.

Thank you for support.

Rousay Tales - Part Two….

In Travelling, listeners can walk Rousay’s circular road with a well-travelled postman, a well-known artist and the fastest man on the island. Hear about shipwrecks and bounties of tea. Hide from the press gangs and travel the peat tracks before you step aboard the steamer and marvel at the arrival of the ro-ro ferry.”
