Eday Solstice June '25…….Post Excavation Work…… A Garden In Pompeii…..

by Bernie Bell - 08:07 on 03 July 2025

Eday Solstice June '25

Sunshine

after Solstice storm

she has shown us

all her faces

soporific stillness

through longest daylight night

breath held

over flat silent sea

scarcely a midge stirring

only the curlews'

rippling trill

and oyster catchers'

beep beeping

sound track the silence

Solstice morning

brought boisterous wind

tumbling the land and

sea thrown jumble

into the deluge

rushing and gushing

down rooves and gullies

sky splitting flash and crash

till torrents subside

the gale dies

a splash of blue

breaks through grey cloud

to

calm

This shows what can be learnt by examining the minutest details from an ancient site - as is happening now with the post-excavation work at The Ness of Brodgar and The Cairns – actual plant remains have been found at The Cairns….
