Cats & Christmas Trees..…What Three Words?....

Cats & Christmas Trees…

A friend posted a pic. of her cat worshipping the Christmas tree which reminded me of a tale of cats & Christmas….

I used to  have a set of baubles for the Christmas tree, each one wrapped in silk thread. The first year I hung them on the tree my two cats, Souxie (named after Souxie of ‘…..and The Banshees’ – similar attitude) and Ali (named after Alexander the Great – very much an explorer and hunter)  took absolutely no notice of them, or the tree.  Didn’t give them so much as a glance, all day.

I went to bed – came down next morning to find that the tree was down - the baubles mostly taken off - the ones with silk thread wrapped round them, unwrapped.

There was just one of the silk-wrapped ones left, which we still have and which still goes on the ‘tree’ – though, these days, we use a willow obelisk so’s not to kill trees unnecessarily.

I have a photo of Souxie, from another Christmas, staring at the Christmas tree – plotting destruction……

I didn’t give them a chance to have a go at that one – they were shut in the kitchen at night!

Speaking of Souxie’s attitude…

When Mike and I first got together, Souxie resented him – a lot. One evening, we were sitting on the sofa, and she was curled up on my lap.

She then stood up, turned round, pointed her bum at Mike, looked over her shoulder at him, raised her tail and……farted at him!!!

Then, she just looked at him.

Then settled down on my lap again.

She also regularly vomited in his shoes.

She got used to him, eventually.

Ali never minded who was  there, as long as she got attention from them.

Sisters, but very, very different personalities.

Mike's Dad strongly disliked cats – “didn’t like their attitude” – very much a dog person. Souxie went to work on him. It took her years but, eventually, he arrived to visit us one day said ”Hello” to her, and – she walked away, sat on the back of the sofa with her back to him, and completely ignored him from then on!!!  She really was something else.

What Three Words?...

On Christmas Day Mike and I had a short walk down to the Bay of Hinderayre where we found a large piece of marine litter……

Being good citizens, when we got home I emailed…

https://www.salmonscotland.co.uk/initiatives/marine-debris

….who have set up an initiative for collecting bruck from beaches, as previously mentioned in m’blog of the 13th of January this year…

The notification form requires a ‘three words’ indicator for the location of the rubbish.

I don’t ‘get’ the 3 Words thing – why not simply  ‘Bay of Hinderayre’ which is pretty unequivocal – or for a residence ‘23 Acacia Avenue ‘ or ‘The Laurels’ etc. etc.

But, needs must when modernity drives and Mike found the relevant three words - scared. tidal. jumbled.  - I filled in the form and summitted it.

We then wondered if it’s become a game that people play – think of three random words and see where they take you.  Mike tried – unicorn. parsnip. plead. - and found himself at an un-interesting stretch of countryside in Japan!  Can’t win ‘em all.

Here’s the tale of a previous attempt to keep plastic off beaches…

It all helps.
