Life - Connects….

You might have read the section entitled ‘Life’…

http://www.spanglefish.com/berniesblog/blog.asp?blogid=16569

I sent this link to Robinson RR via his Facebook page, and he replied….

Those two coloured sticks are genuine Robinson RR pieces! They belonged to a boat sculpture that was a fixture in our garden, the boat was washed away during a flood.

And I replied…

Blimey! We thought they looked very, very similar - but didn't see how they came to be on the Sands O' Wright. Though, I suppose it is just 'round the corner'.

So we now have a genuine Robinson R.R card, accompanied by pieces from a genuine Robinson R.R. sculpture!

‘The boat was washed away during a flood’- no comment needed.

At least now Cruella has gone….”

Mike and I then stood and looked at the picture of the card and sticks on our windowsill, with what looks like light reflected on a dark sea behind it  - a trick of the light on the window -  and pondered how poignant the connection is…

Boats, full of people, sink.  The drowned people get washed up on other shores.

Robinson R.R. makes sculptures to underline the absolute wrong-ness of the attitude toward migrants - and humans. I keep thinking  ‘Am I not a man and a brother?”

Robinson RR and wife Patty have one of his boat sculptures in their garden, which is very near the sea….

The sculpture gets washed away in a storm – the ‘people’ from the sculpture get washed up on another shore - we find them.

I see the longer stick as a ‘grown-up’ and the shorter stick as a child.

I write a piece about our walk.  Next day – Cruella gets the sack  - HURRAH!!!!

Life …connects.

PS

I just received the following from 'Freedom From Torture'...

"Today is a victory for human rights and compassion!

The Supreme Court has upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal and ruled that this Government's plan to send refugees to Rwanda is unlawful.

We are delighted, and relieved, that the Supreme Court has affirmed what we already knew: this Government's 'cash for humans' deal with Rwanda is not only cruel and deeply immoral, but it also flies in the face of the laws of this country.

This is a huge victory for the millions of caring people across the UK who stand for a fairer and more compassionate asylum system.

We have felt the relief from survivors of torture in our therapy rooms today and we hope that today's decision marks a positive step forward for our compassionate movement.

But, despite clear evidence that Rwanda is unsafe for refugees, this Government is continuing to push its cruel policies which have led to an enormous asylum backlog that is now preventing thousands of torture survivors from rebuilding their lives.

It is important that we celebrate victories like today and see them as motivation to continue our fight for an asylum system that treats people with humanity, dignity and compassion.

Thank you for standing with us.

In solidarity,

Agustina

From ‘Emergence’ Magazine….

Earthrise

by Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee

“[In] all this inky black void, the Earth was there with this beautiful blue hue to it. The blue marble.”
—Frank Borman

“We’re remembering Frank Borman who passed this week. He was one of the astronauts on the Apollo 8 mission in 1968 who captured the first image of Earth from space. In the film Earthrise, told solely by Frank and his fellow Apollo 8 astronauts, they recall their experience of the beauty, awe, and grandeur of the Earth against the blackness of space. This iconic image had a powerful impact on the world, letting us see the Earth, perhaps for the first time, as our shared, collective home.”

From ‘Wild Justice’…

“Good morning! Just a quick newsletter to mark the exit of Therese Coffey - one of the trio of ministers who were ridiculed in the RSPB's Liargate tweet. And then there were two...

http://www.spanglefish.com/berniesblog/blog.asp?blogid=16482 )

We cannot mourn the passing of Dr Coffey nor particularly welcome the arrival of Steve Barclay from Health. It says much about the way that journalists see Westminster politics that the move from Health to Environment was described several times as a demotion - it's just the environment after all! Unfortunately, that also appears to have been how successive Prime Ministers have seen the role of Defra too, and, unfortunately some of the recent incumbents. We've heard the phrase 'it can't get any worse' too many times to do anything other than wait to see.”

‘Nuff said.

Here’s one I made earlier….

Contradictions – Part 7……..

Mr Stockan

In his wisdom

States that Orkney tourism

Needs Cruise Liners

Carrying thousands

Polluting and disrupting.

And yet

He also supports the Faray turbines

Visible for miles

From ferries traveling to the Isles

Bringing visitors

To see wildlife

Including seals?

Contradictions.
