Between The Shows….

(with apologies to Billy Bragg)

I heard the thunder

I saw the lightening

I felt the downpour

Between the Shows

Dounby had sunshine

County is hopeful

Hope to get this over with

Between the Shows!

Swandro……

Finishing this year’s dig on a high note….

https://www.swandro.co.uk/post/having-a-whale-of-a-time

Often happens at the end of a day – or end of a dig.

LOOK at that whalebone – just …LOOK at it!!!!

What might they find/save from the sea next year?????

As the saying goes – watch this space!

Tower When The Tide’s Out…..

A different time of day…..A different aspect….

Ballerinas

All little girls at some point
Want to be ballerinas
To color with joyful dance
This gray grown-up world
But life dissolves dreams
Debts demand payment
With money as easy
As lifting a skirt
Delicate limbs twist
To please hollow men
Watching their phones
Instead of breasts freed
For their approval
Rejection still burns
Livers overwhelmed
Eyes looking nowhere
The personal cost of business
For grown-up ballerinas

This poem reminded me of a television programme I saw about the demise of the Working Men’s Clubs in Britian….

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_men%27s_club#:~:text=Working%20men's%20clubs%20are%20British,class%20men%20and%20their%20families.

There was one scene in a club where there was a stripper.   Poor girl, she’d really made an effort – all decked out in lacy white underwear – somehow bridal – stripping seductively to ‘Cream’ by Prince.  That threw me a bit, as I’m a big fan of Prince – I thought – is this what his music’s come to?  Fact is – he’d probably have enjoyed it.

There weren’t many men in the room.  One was sitting at a table reading a paper – the others were standing by the bar, chatting.  It stuck me that none of them was paying any attention to this girl – who did look good.

I thought – what a way to make a living.  Fair enough if the person stripping – male or female - is appreciated – but this disregard was awful.

I suppose it’s a living, but it must be dis-heartening when that happens.

Exclusivity….

I don’t like exclusivity. If I join or support an organization it’s because I want to support that organization and what it does.  I’m not interested in seeing things before other people do or having things offered to me exclusively because I’m a Member – I’m interested in spreading the word as much as possible and getting as many folk interested as possible.

I was puttering at Mike about this and he made another good analogy….

Since letting our lawn go to meadow, with resulting seeds heads – Goldfinches have started to feed there and fly across the front of the house, much to our delight.  They also, obviously, fly across our neighbour’s gardens.  People who like exclusivity and to feel that they always ‘get something in return’ might resent that.  We’re just pleased to be helping the birds.

End of rant.
