Matthew Manning’s Meditations…..Where Are The Ordinary Folk?......Say It Loud…. From Kilmorack Gallery….

Matthew Manning’s Meditations…

I have trouble clearing my mind - I have a jabbering monkey-mind which cuts in with all sorts of crap.  I can do deep breathing, telling myself to relax and go with the flow – then monkey-mind jumps in with  ‘Ah but…what if…’ etc. etc.

So, I find it hard to get into a meditative state, whilst knowing that a meditative state is a good thing, and where I need to be.

I need to be guided.  When monkey-mind tries to intrude I tell myself to follow the music, follow the words - listen....

I have a few C.D’s of guided mediations - a couple by Matthew Manning, and one by Audrey Murr-Copland – but if I listen to them too often they become familiar, I lose the thread, drift away and monkey-mind jumps in again.

I recently discovered a wonderful source of guided meditations for Distant Healing by Mathew Manning.  He’s set up a section of his website where people can sign up and pay £5 a month to access a set of earlier meditations.

Here’s the link to the relevant part of his website…

If anyone wants to gripe about the silver and gold levels etc. etc – he’s taken the time to put these pieces together and present them in this way for folk who can’t get to see him personally, who maybe can’t get to see any healer personally – and folk like me who have minds which stray.

The other thing I did was sign up to have his weekly messages sent to me– which un-cannily hit the nail on the head, time after time – here’s today’s…

“You are not too old, too tired, or too ‘anything’. You are younger than your tomorrow, stronger than you realise, and wiser than you know. Don’t give up before you even try!

Have a wonderful week ahead .... Matthew”

All I can say is…yup.

Where Are The Ordinary Folk?

More musings after visiting The Cairns dig.

The wonderfully informative Ole told the tour group about the Elder Assemblage…

https://archaeologyorkney.com/2022/10/17/isotope-analysis-reveals-an-atypical-iron-age-diet-for-the-cairns-elder/

…..and that only a few days ago a single tooth had also been found, of a male.

This led to a discussion about how the remains of the Iron Age dead were often carefully placed – possibly indicating that they were important figures in their group and/or in a wider network in Iron Age Society?

I have an impression of dynasties – intermarrying – visiting their in-laws – feasting and exchanging gifts.

But…..not many Iron Age cemeteries have been found - and so I’m wondering - what happened to the ‘ordinary’ dead folk?

I ‘Googled’ and found this – which is clear and comprehensive…..

Dispersed cremated bone fragments belonging to more than 60 individuals were found at Phantassie Farm near East Linton….

Was the idea that the dead would help to fertilize the land, and thereby feed the living?  I like that idea.

Here are some more deliberations, reports etc. for you to ‘cherry-pick‘ for yourselves…..

One last tale of  burials and ashes ……for Mike’s brother’s 50th birthday a group of people went up Mount Snowdon.  The others walked up - I caught the train, carrying the cake and bottles of champagne. We then gathered at the top to drink John’s health. One of the group realised that she was sitting on something - which turned out to be ashes!  Not dead fire ashes – dead person ashes.  We named them Auntie Mable, and drank a toast to Auntie Mable, too.

Maybe so many Iron Age ashes were scattered in different ways that it doesn’t leave us with much evidence of what happened to the ‘ordinary’ folk?

I’d prepared the above piece of writing, when I read the Dig Diary for Friday written by The Man With The Plan – Martin Carruthers…

https://archaeologyorkney.com/2023/06/30/the-cairns-dig-diary-day-fifteen/

…and I thought – ‘Well, there’s a co-incidence’.

Martin writes about the ‘knocking stone’ which has been found, which reminded me of these pieces from ‘Kist’, the journal of the Kilmartin Glen Museum….. http://www.kilmartin.org/

I love it when things connect up.
