Art & Archaeology……

The inter-weaving of art and archaeology in Orkney is one of the case studies highlighted in the latest edition of  British Archaeology magazine

https://archaeologyorkney.com/2023/01/09/art-archaeology-impact/

This took me back to 2010 when Antonia Thomas of the UHI Archaeology Institute organized some Art and Archaeology days, as referenced here….

Other examples of when art & archaeology combine…..

There’s the question of whether some of the marks are writing?......

And there’s Lotte Glob’s Book Broch at her croft near Loch Eriboll, complete with a ‘well’ – every Broch should have one……..

It’s a wide-reaching and immersive subject.

'Living with the Unknown: Soundtrack'....

by Volker Bertelmann

“Oscar-nominated composer Volker Bertelmann (also known as Hauschka) created a companion soundtrack for the third volume of our print edition, Living with the Unknown. His visceral score offers a potent space to encounter the questions and ideas posed in this volume."

A Heart-felt Plea…….

I received the following from change.org…..

Hello People all over the world

Please take the time to read this

While you have your children by your side, many Iranian parents are experiencing fear and terrible anxiety in the face of what is happening to their children in Iran.  Parents do not know if they will see their children again when they leave home to go to school, university, gym, and work. They do not know if their children return home if they will find them in prison, or hospital, or if they will be found dead.

Currently, 19000 Iranians are in prison for fighting for democracy and freedom. Some of these prisoners are children and young adults. Some of them have been sentenced to death. The barbaric Revolutionary Court in Iran sentences children and young adults to death in minutes. They are accused of fighting against God and corruption in the land. Over the past four months, children and young adults have been victims of physical and psychological abuse and torture. Some of them committed suicide after being released from prison. In addition, their families are under pressure to remain silent and not speak with others about their captive children.

Please do not hesitate, you can help Iranian parents and children who fight for the most basic rights. You can be their voice.

How can you be their voice and help them?

  • Share this petition and other petitions like this.
  • If you or someone you know has access to media, invite a non-politically affiliated Iranian to speak about what is happening in the prison of the Islamic regime of Iran and the system of justice in Iran.
  • Join protests against the executions and condemn other forms of violence

We need you to stop executions of protesters in Iran. “

Raheleh Behzadi

Watching….

I’m still getting over over-doing it last Wednesday.  A grand walk….. http://www.spanglefish.com/berniesblog/blog.asp?blogid=16084 , but by now I really should know my limitations.  I haven’t been outdoors since, and have been watching the life in the garden through the window, including Mr Harrier swooping low.

Rookie still rules the bird table.  Kraak the Heron turns up at the pond when it’s not too windy – picture a Heron trying to fly in a high wind.

The Wren hops about in the Hebe, sometimes the Dunnock does so, too. And, of course, the sparrers and starlings just mob the place regularly.

The sparrers like to peck about on the terrace in front of the house, where we placed a dish of water for the hedgehogs when they are about.  Now, the Robin thinks it’s his and gets very incensed when the sparrers use it.

The man who was supposed to strim our meadow last November still hasn’t turned up, so in his Christmas break from work Mike did a bit of strimming himself and then raked up the grass for our neighbour’s pigs who appreciate something other than dry food.

We noticed that, where he’s raked up the cuttings, suddenly we have 4 blackbirds, a thrush and a robin pecking about - must have stirred up bugs and seeds.

I watch all this from the window – but look to getting outdoors again soon – aiming for Saturday.
