The Return Of The Vax….And The Vikings……

The Return Of The Vax…

Being old and manky, I’ve received a letter asking me to go to the local vaccination centre for my next anti-Covid jab – and I will do so.

I have some reluctance about this as I have had side effects both times previously – not very bad, but enough to mean I‘m out of action for about a week.  As I can’t do much at the best of times, this is something of a bummer – but a hell of a lot better than getting Covid and its possible complications – so I’ll go for my jab.

The invitation is for a Covid and/or ‘flu jab, but I’ll decline the ‘flu jab as that makes me unwell too – so much so that I stopped having them some years ago.  I don’t think having them both together would be a good idea for me,  personally – fine for other folk – just not for me.  My choice.

Fact is, I’m so careful about avoiding possible Covid infection that I’m not likely to catch ‘flu either. I don’t go indoors where there will be unknown people, and even outdoors I still keep a bit of a distance.

I believe it to be worth it – the caution, and the jabs.  I’ll rest up for a couple of days to have my resources as strong as possible and go for it, as I have done before….

Not filled with joy at the idea but…needs must when Covid drives – AND IT HAS NOT GONE AWAY!

Putting The Pieces Together

It’s not just jabs and booster

It’s – facemasks & flow tests

Keeping your distance & staying put.

It’s not instant boosters to go to parties

They don’t work that quick anyway.

People aren’t putting the pieces together

And there’s no vaccine against being selfish….

Or acting stupid.

Aaaaanddddd……an exciting last minute addition to the Orkney Viking Week programme!

‘From Fleece to Fabric’
with Tim Morrison and Howard Hardiman

Friday 16th September, 7 pm

Zoom (free) - register on Eventbrite to get the link

Howard Hardiman and Tim Morrison will Zoom from their home in Sanday (Orkney) and take folk through the process involved in preparing and working wool. This is a whistlestop tour of a very skilled process, but those taking part will get a taster and a feel for what is involved in preparing the wool, spinning, and textile making as it is traditionally done on a hand-held drop spindle like those used in the Viking Age.

‘Nowt to do wi’ Vikings or textiles but Howard Hardiman had an exceptional exhibition in Northlight Gallery some years ago….. https://theorkneynews.scot/2018/06/22/here-be-bears/

He makes GOOD THINGS.

At the 2018 Brochtoberfest…. https://theorkneynews.scot/2018/10/22/brochtoberfest/ there was a display of drop-spindle spinning in the Iron Age…

I wonder if there are plans for a Brochtoberfest this year?
