Patch testing for Hair Colouring
02 March 2011

To comply with  The Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) and to fulfill the duty of care to clients under The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 it is imperative that clients wishing to have a colour application to their hair submit to skin patch testing at least 48 hours before their colour appointment.

This involves a tiny amount of the colour to be used being applied to the skin behind the client's ear and left to develop.

In the 20 years of hair colouring and skin patch testing I have carried out, I have never seen any sensitivity to hair colour but I still do this test to feel confident that no adverse reaction will occur.
