 Spray Tanning

The ideal solution if you would like to achieve a golden skin colour without the dangers of U.V. or the time necessary to gradually build up a tan. Sienna X tan involves a fine mist being applied to your skin via a specialist low pressure spraying machine. The active ingredient dihydroxyacetone, known as DHA is a colourless sugar which reacts with the amino acids and proteins in the outer layer of your skin to produce a golden brown colour, it’s a similar process to when sliced apples go brown when exposed to air.

Development time

You will be sprayed with a lightly coloured solution of DHA, so you can see where the product has been applied to your skin but the actual tan takes 6-8 hours to develop and the lightly coloured solution will wash off when showering.

Sienna X products have been tested over the past 5 years, as well as active DHA the product is enriched with aloe vera and other top quality ingredients to actively nourish and moisturise your skin.

Frequently asked Questions

Is it Safe?

Yes. It is much safer than exposure to the sun’s rays whilst delivering a great tanned look. DHA has been approved by the FDA for use in the personal care industry for over 30 years. No adverse reactions have been reported other than minor skin irritations on allergic people. Allergic reactions are very rare but if you have experienced an allergic reaction to another beauty product please arrange to get a skin patch test with the product 24-48 hours before the proposed spray tan session.

Remember with a sunless tan – there’s no risk of sunburn, peeling, sunstroke or sun-related skin diseases.

How long does it last?

Your tan will last 4 – 7 days depending on your daily skincare regime and lifestyle. A sunless tan fades like a tan from the sun as your dead skin cells are shed. The key is therefore to moisturise daily. A Sienna X tan comes with a sachet of  MAKI IT MOIST MAKE IT LAST DHA rich tan top up moisturiser for you to use, this does help maximise the life of your tan.

Can you use tanning beds or tan outdoors with a Spray tan?

Yes. You can do both if you choose, but you need to remember that a spray tan, while it looks gorgeous, does not give you any protection from the sun’s ultraviolet light.

Use a sunscreen with Spf of 20 or above. Remember that the sun dries your skin out, reducing the longevity of your tan.

How should I prepare for my tanning session?

To get the best results you need to remove your dead skin cells by exfoliating. When booking you will be given a sachet of ‘Rough it up to smooth it off’ exfoliating wash.

This means that the DHA can get straight to work on new skin cells, giving you a longer lasting tan. Make up and deodorants should be removed before a tanning session as they can prohibit absorbtion of the DHA. Do not moisturise either.

What will happen during my treatment?

On your very first treatment you will be asked a number of questions by your therapist and a consultation card will be filled in.

You will then be given time to get undressed, or change into underwear and remove your jewellery.

Next a barrier cream is applied to any very dry areas of skin to prevent them tanning too much.

The spraying takes about 10 minutes then some drying time, you will be standing inside a big tanning cubicle to ensure the spray goes on your skin and not into the air.

Your Sienna X therapist is qualified, experienced and will explain what is happening at each stage. During your treatment you will see a golden colour appear on your skin, this is the colour guide for your therapist to see whilst spraying, good light in the room is very important for an even result. The tan now develops over the next few hours, some of the colour guide will wash off in your next shower.

Do I have to get naked?

No, it’s entirely up to you. If you don’t want to get naked old, darker coloured underwear or swimming gear is recommended as the product will stain. Your therapist can provide disposable black underwear for you to purchase.

What should I wear after my treatment?

Wear loose fitting, dark coloured clothing and open footwear such as flip flops as some of the bronzer can rub off and if you perspire the product rubs off your skin.

Natural fibres such as 100% cotton t-shirts are ideal.

What about streaking or turning orange?

Fake tanning has come a long way since the early days. Better solutions and more advanced machines virtually eliminates these issues. The maintenance of your skin with moisturiser also helps prolong a good even result.

Who should not get a spray tan?

Women who are in their first 3 months of pregnancy, anyone who is allergic to self-tan or who has breathing difficulties. If in doubt, discuss with your therapist beforehand.

Important Preparation
Exfoliate skin either the night before or on the morning of the spray tan - the 'Rough it up to smooth it off' exfoliating body scrub is made with a combination of natural oils, plant botanicals, vital nutrients, mild exfoliating particles and gentle cleansers to create the optimal pH balance, it is also 100% paraben free so prepares skin perfectly for tanning  treatment. Do not have any anti-perspirant or deodourant on the skin to be tanned as this can turn a greenish tinge.
