Bus For Jobs

The ‘Bus for Jobs’ free travel initiative will be launched in January 2013, to help people look for work.

The initiative means that people who hold the Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card will be eligible for free bus travel throughout January.

It is being run by Greener Journeys, a partnership of bus companies which aims to encourage more people to use public transport.

The scheme will be publicised in the media, and will include details about how to find out which bus companies are involved and who is eligible for a travel discount card.  http://www.busforus.co.uk/busforjobs

The scheme is open to people aged 18 years or more who have been unemployed for between three months and less than one year . To qualify, they must carry a Jobcentreplus Travel Discount Card which is obtainable free of charge from Jobcentre Plus offices. To be eligible they must already receive Jobseekers’ Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance or Income Support and be actively engaged with a Jobcentre Plus adviser in returning to work.

Free travel is available from 1st to 31st January.

If someone is interested, they will need to make an appointment at their jobcentre to get the Travel Discount Card. The best way to arrange an appointment is to telephone - 0845 6043719-they should ask for their own office, and they will then be put through to make the appointment.
