I have deep affection for landscape painting and also I am a figurative painter. As my view Highland landscapes are representative identity of Scotland; Scottish traditions are more “natural,” rather than cultural. Depicting landscape is a way to celebrating and experiencing Scottish heritage.
In order to explore the spirit of Scottish heritage of Highland landscape I travelled in north highland and skye island with my father Li Jian, a photographer. After that I developed my experience from nature into a studio creation and explore the Highland material culture heritage. Landscape paintings can reflect our land and living environment. The meaning of landscape painting is not merely to illustrate the landscape or copy nature, but rather it is to depict an active life manner and attitude of human being. Painting landscape is a kind of art form to concern environment and situation of people by the subject of scenery.
