Howe Trinity Kirk Christian Aid Coffee Evening

by Jim - 07:57 on 19 May 2009

A thoroughly enjoyable event from our point of view ( I hope no-one noticed too many mistakes from the less accomplished fiddlers, myself included) and the feedback was very positive. The slow airs were particularly appreciated ("not many folk play them and you played them with such feeling" was what one member of the audience said after the event).

We were made to feel very welcome and appreciated the tea and fauncy pieces laid on by the Guild....what hard work must have gone into the preparation (and the clearing up afterwards) by the members of the Howe Trinity Guild and their partners and friends.

We appreciated the kind words from the Rev. John Cook at the end of the concert, but it was really a pleasure for us to play to an appreciative local audience and in such a superb setting. I've said this before, but I don't mind repeating it, the new Hall is a real asset to the community and the acoustics in the packed hall are excellent.....I hope it gets the full use it deserves and it would provide a superb venue for any arts performances.

We were more than pleased to have the return of Moira Downey with her stories and songs....as I listened to her wonderful unaccompanied singing, her clear and powerful voice filling the space, I couldn't help but think that classical music would sound equally good in the Howe Trinity Kirk Hall, and also that she really ought to think of cutting her first CD!

We tested out the high tech projection system too, displaying a rolling slide show of a few images from the Alford Image Library website.....a couple of the fiddlers are currently working on incorporating this technique in a future concert to accompany some recently composed music, so watch this space....and I feel the roots of a locally based play forming from some research I have been doing which could use the same technology, so is there a Howe Trinity Drama Group who could help stage it?

So thanks to one and all from all of the Alford Fiddlers and we hope to be invited back sometime in the future.
