Today we had our first visit to a retirement community. We went to visit the Delahunts in The Villages near Ocala. Shaelyn was at school with Caraid until she left last year. Her parents recently bought a house in a retirement community. We went to visit today as they fly home tonight. It was unlike anything we could have imagined - it was massive complex, a totally different world. It has a population of 90,000 which is more than Inverness.
Here are the children:
This morning a morning dove hatched two baby birds in a tree on their porch:
Everyone drives about in golf carts (some of which are extremely expensive - they have clubs for particular brands):
There are fantastic amenities, including 20 x 9 hole golf courses and 11 championship courses and it's own college (part of Florida University). We played shuffleboard:
Then we played pickle ball (like giant table tennis):
Then we went to visit one of several town centres - it has everything including many of the big chain restaurants and shops.
Then we drove Shaelyn and her mum to the airport although given that Halifax had 40 cms of snow today, there is no saying when they will actually get home.
It was a great day - I don't feel quite ready for retirement yet, but the website is definitely worth a look:
