Today we had very stormy weather - lots of rain and high winds that are forecast to stay over the weekend.  We arrived at the school to find their power was out, but that doesn't mean the children get the day off - no such easy life for them here!  They had the emergency lights, so although there were no classroom lights, there was one light in each corridor - the children all seemed to find it great fun.  In Brendan's class each child was handed a glow stick as they went in and then they played hide and seek in the dark.

Brendan got an invitation to have lunch with his head teacher - complete with table linen, music and china - I'd have loved to see that.  He said he had remembered 'half his manners', so not sure if that is reassuring or not.

When I came home after taking them to school I discovered that we had no power, no heating and no running water.  It took until 5,30pm for me to work out how to restart all these systems, but at least now we are prepared for similar events in the future and we once again have all these services we take for granted.
