Interested in education of the young, he left £350 so that the income could pay for a teacher for constantly teaching in reading and writing the poor children in the parish.
Canon W W Ware 1859 – 1875
During the incumbency of Canon Ware, much restoration was undertaken, details of which may be found on the tablets in the chancel, but briefly, in 1862, the old box pews were removed and replaced by new pews the west gallery was removed. This work was done by Alexander Clark of the parish for £285. 19s and he further supplied a pulpit and a desk for £25. In the same year a new eight day clock was purchased for £40 to replace the clock that had been in the tower for many years. In 1875 the south exterior wall of the nave was encased and the old stone porch was replaced by the present porch.
Edmund de Courcey Ireland 1894-1905
At his own expense he provided the institute and reading room for the social and educational pursuits of the people of Adwick .. Adwick’s very first leisure centre and library. He also built St Laurence’s terrace to give better housing conditions to some of his parishioners.
Rev. Ernest Farmer 1905 – 1922
During his incumbency some major additions were made to the interior of the church. The choir stalls were altered from lectern type stalls to bench style, an alter reredos had been erected. All this had been completed by 1909. Rev Farmer then decided to acquire a rood screen.
To raise money a fete took place over two days and a souvenir was issued to commemorate this occasion. The screen erected still stands today the following illustrations are; the development of the interior and some extracts from the souvenir “Sale of Work” May 18/19, 1911.The sale of work scheme was a total success and grossed enough to pay for the rood screen.
