This three-day forum dealt with how government can be held accountable by its citizens. It was held at the Paradise Suites Hotel from 26 – 28 May 2006, in Banjul, The Gambia.

Maiden International women’s conference

On 7th June 2006, ADG, in collaboration with the National Women’s Bureau of the government of The Gambia, held, at the paradise Suites Hotel, Banjul, The Gambia, a one day international conference preceding the African Union Banjul Summit as part of the civil society participation initiative. The theme of the conference was: Women in Politics and Good Governance.

ADG deemed it necessary and appropriate to explore the rationale behind women’s abstinence from politics more particularly due to religious and cultural factors with a view to sensitize them in their role towards active participation in leadership and decision makings and in the promotion of good governance in Africa. The conference attracted women and men from both local and international origin, professionals, political parties, women organizations and civil society groups.
