Risks Of Working From Home(not for publication)

Concerns have been raised about Firstport staff working from home.

To clarify the situation for those that are working from home, it shouild be noted that before you do so , you must ensure the terms of your mortgage allows for this.

You must inform your insurance company, that you are working from home, otherwise your policy will be invalidated and in the event of a burglary/fire you will not be covered in the event of a claim.

You must have a senior manager verify that you have a secure place to work and store any information contained on any Firstport computer and that no one other than yourself can have access to the confidential resident information that is held.

If you can satisfy these criteria and you wish to work from home, the good news is that it is tax deductable. For example you can claim for the proportion of broadband costs you use for Firstport work. Or, if you need to buy a secure cabinet, that is deductable as well. So claim what you can. It is your right.

According to sources, Peverel/Firstport in the guise of Carol Crowe and Keith Edgar actively discouraged any legitimate questions about the implications of home working.

And they stopped telling workers about their rights to a tax rebate as they didn't want HMRC to find out just how many of their staff were working at home, instead of their offices.
