About Peverel Meets The FPRA

About Peverel had the pleasure of meeting Bob Smytherman, of the Federation of Private Residents Association. Bob, a former Mayor of the delightful seaside resort of Worthing, has spent a lifetime in public service, a role he still serves the people of Worthing with great distinction.

Many issues that concern leaseholders were discussed. Bob displayed a great understanding of those issues.

Whilst some have latched on to the "help the leaseholder" industry for less than wholesome purposes, BOb's motivation has always been to bring some kind of justice for hard pressed leaseholders.

It was agreed that a key reason freeholders/managing agents can treat leaseholders with such contempt is because leaseholders lack either the knowledge or fire power to challenge them.

If leaseholders were able to access information and advice from those that know leasehold issues, they would be in a position to challenge the conduct of freeholders and managing agents.

Imagine writing a complaint saying "I think you service charges are a rip off" compared to (for example) "Under Section 26 Leasehold and Tenant Act 2009,your service charge item for £546 is invalid, and therefore must be withdrawn"

Clearly, the latter would be more effective.

If you are forming or already have a Residents Association, the FPRA gives leaseholders access to information and advice that rogue freeholders/managing agents rely on leaseholders not having.

Freeholders/managing agents pay good money to find ways to cheat oppressed leaseholders. The dice is loaded against individul leaseholders.

Whilst it is very rare for About Peverel to give it's endorsement to another organisation (LKP/Carlex being others) we recommend the FPRA.

Apart from a one off joining fee of £50, membership of the FPRA for up to 25 flats is only £77.50 p.a. Over 151 flats is £275.15.p.a.
