The Dream Becomes A Nightmare

After a lifetime working, what better than retiring to the beautiful East Sussex town of Heathfield. What better than moving to a newly built retirement development.

Yes, the flats were not cheap(in 2008 ranging from £219,950 to £228,950, for a very modest flat). However, as any estate agent will say "location is everything".

Moving to 2014, what became of the dream for those that purchased a flat?

Well such is the state of maintenance the managing agents (Peverel Retirement/ Firstport Retirement) have sent letters advising that urgent work is needed in the garden areas. A levy will be placed on residents service charges as their are insufficient funds in the service charge trust accounts to pay for the urgent maintenance.

For those residents who wish to sell, those properties purchased in 2008 for £219,950 and £228,950 are on the market for between £125,950 and £128,950.

One flat has been reduced to a mere £100,000!

A nearby new build Mcarthy & Stone development has similar flats available from £177,000. Though this may seem to be "good value" it is not so good for anyone who has just paid £188,000 for a flat before Mcarthy & Stone reduced the asking price.
