How To Spot A Sub-Let Fee Scam!

Suppose you receive a sub-let fee demand?

Always check your lease to see if such a fee is allowed.

If you challenge the basis of the charge, and you are advised to refer to your lease, there is a very good chance the charge is a scam.

Since money is demanded from you on the basis of the lease, it follows that if the demand is genuine, the freeholder/managing agent will have a copy of the lease themselves and will be able to say "provision for a charge to sub-let is made under section 2, paragraph 5 (for example) of the lease."

Anyone receiving a demand for sub-let fees should ask the freeholder/managing agent to quote from their copy of the lease.
