The Fire Brigade were called and tried to contact Appello to gain entry to the building.
Having received no answer from Appello, the officers banged on windows to attract attention. Through a resident they finally gained entry afte a considerable delay.
Fortunately all was well, but the DM most complacently informed the officers that "had they waited longer Appello would have answered"
At the coroner's inquest into the death of Irene Cockerton in the fatal fire at Gibson Court, Appello were severely criticised for failing to pass on a call to the Fire Brigade that would have alerted them to the fact that the fire had spread to another part of the building and just possibly could have saved Irene's life?
Firstport subsequently received a record fine for their failings at Gibson Court.
