Letter from Rye - Richard Moore
Work to the new all singing all dancing relay is coming along splendidly.
However, due to the date of the funding being accepted we were always going to be playing catch up during the summer by about three weeks. We could not place the order under funding had been accepted.
This has been confirmed even more so, by discovering this week that the pedal board needed attention after all these years - in fact a lot of attention. Actually re-building.
Despite a chequered history of things going wrong ( in the nicest possible way) at Rye we have reached the stage where having paid out all this money it needs to be right. This then gives credit to Roger Hempstead and his fine team at F.H. Brownes of Canterbury for all their hard work and to David Wattenbach our very own technical executive for overseeing the project. Both like things just so, and, I fully respect that.
So ,I have made a decision for them approved by the Committee to give them a little bit more assistance and more importantly time.
We look forward to welcoming Paul Roberts on Sunday 26th for his two yearly visit. Paul has a natrual talent of superb musicianship entwined with a wicked sense of humour - we look forward to both once again. On this occasion he will be performing on not one instrument but three.
Paul performs around the country on a Yamaha HS8 which he will be bringing with him. The college acoustic piano will also be heard for featured pieces PLUS a Gulbransen Electronic Organ of some size and grace that has been kindly been donated to the Rye Wurlitzer Academy by Frank Cornish of Portslade for student tuition. For this concert we are going to make full use of it as part of Paul's concert.
I hope you are not too disappointed, but it will enable the techies to have more time to get everything absolutely perfect. We will then launch the new relay at John Mann's Concert on Sunday 24th October where we hope to have some local dignitaries with us to assist with the celebrations, I am even considering putting my oven gloves on and making a cake or two or three .
So to sum up Sept 26th * Paul Roberts Keyboard Extravaganza *, Rye College * 2.30pm. * Admission £7.50 * or Friends pay £5.50 * ( why not join and saves ££££££££) which includes * and Gift Stall. * Doors open 1.30pm. *
Please join us for this special concert to kick start the Autumn series of Sunday afternoon of fine music and a little mirth hear and there.
Please spread the word to others who may not have email facilities so that they do not travel long distances expecting the sound of Pipes, when on this day only, the only pipes on display will be those who care to smoke them outside.
Thank you for your understanding and of course your coninued support.
Best Wishes,
Richard Moore
