GUESTBOOK

The guestbook, like the one below, which comes with a Spanglefish website, allows comments from visitors. By default it is moderated,  which means that no-one's comments are published until they are first checked.

The latest message does not always appear at the top of the page.  Often there is a reply to a previous message lower down the page   Each message is dated - so you can see any new ones by looking at the date.

Helpful website
This website has proved to be very helpful for many organ societies who have acted on the information and have set up their own website.

Anyone about to do this should inform this website to have their society listed - because there will be NO link forthcoming from Organfax - unless you subscribe to them.

Age problem
I am writing this on my son's computer - with his help. Like many others my age, I feel that I am too old to go into new technology - so although I am an official of an organ club, I feel that making a website for my club is not for me.

In fact, may I go further and say that present day electronic organs and keyboards are too complicated to play. Gone are days when there was simple tabs for each sound.

The problem lies with the designers who are the younger generation and have no consideration for older folk like me.

Gone are good old days - and sadly I feel there is no sign of them returning. Retiring people have the money to buy a keyboard - but there seems to be no suitable instrument for them to buy. Manufacturers have cooked their own goose - and few want to eat it!

You are to be commended for being honest on how you feel. However, age is a challenge for many people and keeping the mind active can be a good thing.
We know some secretaries who have had their son or daughter to make a website for their society - made from what they wanted to put on it.
In one case a website was made by a grandson - so there are means and ways of getting things done.

As far as keyboards/organs are concerned, I would rather leave the subject open to discussion. I am sure that there will be many opinions on this subject.

I have recently put together a new website for my own club using a server called 'webs.com'.
It's relatively easy to use once you know your way around the tools available. I've dropped in videos, photos, links to player's own websites or their Organfax listing, and even added some music behind a couple of the pages.
I'm not terribly ancient at 63, but I'm sure with some extra heads involved and an exploration of the process, a reasonable site can be fashioned. I would love to help out other clubs who can't get their heads around it, but I regret I really don't have the time. It's no big deal. The website I have constructed is for the Barnstaple Club which you can find in the links page.

***** Star letter from Keyboard Players UK
Organ Club Website Listing
As a follow up to the letter by Harold Watkins (letter page on Keyboard Players UK), I would like to make a suggestion about the listing of organ society websites on the Internet, that is, the websites that they have made themselves.

Currently no Internet directory (Organfax included **) mentions or links to society own websites.

I suggest that the example website called YOUR ORGAN SOCIETY, illustrated on Keyboardnews & Chat, be used to highlight the websites that clubs have made themselves - like the one made by Basildon Keyboard Club.

The YOUR ORGAN SOCIETY website can surely be easily modified and the format made similar to this one.

The new website will serve to advertise the relevant societies and encourage those with no website to have one.
I would like your comments
........ Fred Thomas

Comment by Ed:
** Just to put the record right, some societies who subscribe to OrganFax do have links mentioned.

Our LINKS page now lists societies with their own website - thus filling the gap.

Good to know
Just to say that I have looked at this website and think it would be most useful for my society who, I regret to say, are living in the past.
I suppose one can live in hope!

New society website
This is a sample to show what a message looks like. There is also a facility to reply.

If you are just a member of an organ society then why not tell your chairman or secretary about this sample website.

In this reply to the above message, may I say that this facility is very easy to use.

I like the care that is taken to prevent an email address being made visible to prevent it being seen by spam merchants.

I agree with Ivor. If all societies and clubs had this facility it would benefit all members.
