The animated UK Box Office weekly chart toppers

Stop Press: I have now sourced the UK box office charts from 1945 to 1995 from an online source, they are as compiled and published in industry magazine 'Screen International' and cover 1969 to 1994 in their entirety plus a highly researched best guess as to what would've topped the charts in 1945 to early 1969. The overlapping years (1991 to 1994) bear only a passing resemblance to my other source for the same years, so it's seem that more than one chart was compiled, at least during the early nineties. I have therefore placed a list of earlier chart topping animations lower down this page until such time as I can find out any more.

Boxofficemojo has nearly all the weekly UK Box Office Top 10s since 1998 and the few gaps can be found elsewhere online, also wikipedia has the list of chart toppers back to 1991 though I cannot vouch for their accuracy pre 1998. Since 1991 and as of 14th April 2019 there have been 885 chart toppers (including Titanic 3D's chart top in 2012 as separate from the original version's run in 1997) of which 97 (or possibly 98, see note further down) were animations.

How many have you seen? How many do you own? Anything you can't believe topped the chart or anything you think should've done?

I am not clear as to whether the weekend of 27th October 2013's chart was officially topped by Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 or by Captain Phillips, the BBC reporting the former (by including preview takings from the previous week) and boxofficemojo reporting the latter (by excluding said preview takings), so I have not included Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 on my list as I feel that counting pre-release takings from the week before would not be something I'd accept in the context of the music charts, so I have chosen to also not count them here, though having said that I cannot absolutely guarantee that a similar situation hasn't arisen before without me knowing about it, so my stance could well prove inconsistent or seemlingly hypocritical.

As an adenda to this page here is another list of the animated movies since 2001 that had respectable box office weekend grosses of £1million+ but missed out on the top spot in the charts.

​Ballerina (also known as Leap) was in cinemas at xmas 2016. Unfortunately my usual source (Box Office Mojo) does not have a chart for xmas weekend (23rd-25th Dec) so I have referred instead to the box office data available from the BPI for that weekend, although for other weekends the figures vary slightly from BoxOfficeMojo figures, so the figure for Ballerina in that weekend (£1.2m, the only time the film got above £1m in a weekend) is possibly larger than what BoxOfficeMojo would have shown for that weekend, meaning it may not have reached the necessary £1m under BoxOfficeMojo chart rules, and therefore it's inclusion on this list is possibly in doubt.
