PUPPETS

The puppets below were donated by my mother Filomena, to Inverness museum after my dad died in 1984.

Unfortunately I have very little information about these puppets or the shows which were performed during their "Elgin days" (late 1940's to mid 1950's) .......... or when they moved to Pittenweem, Fife.

Inverness museum would like to gather as many stories and information about the puppets for their records.

If anyone has any information, no matter how little it is, I would really appreciate if you would get in touch via my "contact me" link.

Thanks,

Andrea

These 4 black & white photos show puppets my mum & dad created. Dad made the bodies and mum dressed them.

I have been fortunate to recently make contact with one of my dad's former pupil's, Denis Wilson, who attended Elgin Academy in the 1950's. He has kindly given me an invaluable insight into the creation and operation of the puppets/marionettes which were used in the school puppet theatre.
Denis played a vital role in the production and execution of many shows, even turning his hand to script writing and the creation of backdrops. It must have been quite an undertaking for my dad and his pupils to transport the entire production and team to various locations which included WRI's and village halls.

Denis is now the custodian of these puppets and others, which must be approximately sixty years old.
If you were involved with the puppets or shows or have any information, please contact me via my "Contact Me" button.

Thanks, Andrea

In May’22 a lady from Canada kindly contacted me as her father’s family had lived in the same street as my father in Aberdeen. Her father had kept a diary which documented a fascinating discovery of a puppet theatre and plays performed in my father’s parent’s garden. I was never aware that this had taken place and was so pleased when she sent me some great photos.
I now know why my parents had such an interest in puppets!
