Fishing interests

The run of salmon and sea/trout has begun to improve and anglers began to prize the Autumn fish that ran the river-broad stocky fish that came in fresh from the sea and forged up the river. By the late 1980’s the Allan was being taken seriously as a game fishing river.
The Allan is managed by the Allan Water Angling Improvement Association, it has good trout fly fishing and, in recent seasons, much improved salmon and sea trout fly fishing. Reliant on rain to bring migratory fish up from the Forth, the main salmon months are August, September and October, with many of the October fish coloured. Sea trout are usually in the upper river by May.

Wildlife

Otters have been seen many times on the Allan. I have never seen one myself whilst canoeing. Maybe thats because they are mainly nocturnal creatures and we like to have finished the river before its dark!
