Cultural influences on my teaching and research
I am an instructor in faculty of Education in a public university. I work with my other instructors, students and other institutes. Although each organization have own organizational culture, I think we share some common in some issues that affect on my practice.
First, in Thai culture, we have respect for tradition and someone who has the authorities but sometimes it is too much. We feel free to follow tradition and those authorities so we hardly to create something new. Moreover, we often believe in word of mouth more than investigation. Second, I found that most people believe in pseudoscience and superstition. This believes influence our understanding in scientific conceptions. The last issue is punctuality. Most of us are always late for work and cannot finish work on time.
