Deep excavations

1. The View

I was visiting a worksite that had a deep excavation, down into which the young Site Engineer conducted me.

At the end of my visit, as I started my ascent, the thought sprang unbidden, and I turned to him ans said, "Remember, as you climb the Ladder of Life, what view you present to those beneath you."
