League Rules.  Revised August 2019

General.

  1. Teams playing at venues within a 10 mile radius of Northallerton shall be eligable to join the League , subject to application and acceptance at the Annual General Meeting.
  2. Entrance fee to be payed to the treasurer at the Annual General Meeting.
  3. At least 8 players must be registered per team. List of registered players to be submitted to the League Secretary by the last day of October. A team may sign on a new player at any time through the season by giving the League Secretary prior notice before playing said player.
  4. A player registered with one team cannot play for another team unless agreed in writing by both captains , and the League Secretary informed in writing.
  5. A player registered with a disbanded team may transfer to another team at any time through the season with prior notice given to the League Secretary.
  6. Teams moving venue will be relegated to the lowest division unless re-locating due to venue closure or by the request of the Landlord of original venue.
  7. In all competitions, Each team to consist of a minimum of six players playing eight games. (4 of domino, 4 of 5&3's in league matches, or eight of one in cup matches). A team without a full complement of eight players may play 1/2 players twice in each format. These players, to be drawn by the opposing captain at the start, must be different for dominoes and fives and threes. A team unable to raise six players will forfeit the game 6-0. 
  8. All matches to be played at 8-30pm. on Thursdays. The two captains to make the draw no later than 8-30. All games to be four handed.
  9. Later arrivals, if registered, may join the match at any time. With captains able to discuss the late playing of any game, at their discretion.  
  10. A team making a no-show, without prior notice to the League Secretary will forfeit the match 6-0.
  11. Any unplayed matches to be re-arranged, must be done so within 14 days of the original match date. Postponements should only be made in extreme circumstances and inclement weather.
  12. One point to be awarded for each game won during the match.League positions will be determined from the number of points gained by each team. In the event of two or more teams having equal points the number of matches won will be considered. The team with the highest number of wins would then be ranked highest. If level on wins, draws will be considered in the same way. If still level a play-off would be required to determie the respective positions..  
  13. Results must be passed to the League Secretary before 5pm Saturday . This can be done in a number of accepted ways.  Leave cards at 66 Thirsk Road, leave card at The Golden Lion, Romanby, Using The Leagues WhatsApp group to send card photo.  email eriggs1@sky.com, text the secretary, phone the secretary. The home captain is always responsable for getting result to the League Secretary. 
  14. Any disputes or complaints must be submitted to the League Secretary within seven days of the event.
  15. In all games, each player to have six dominoes, Before play starts each player will draw a domino, with the highest domino determining the first down. The player on the right of the downer shall shuffle the dominoes. The down shall be the first to select the six dominoes, followed in rotation from the downs left. Players should show any remaining dominoes at the end of the hand. After each hand the down passes one place clockwise.(See exception to this under Dominoes)
  16. All trophy holders to return trophies to the League Secretary prior to 31st. March each year. Failure to do so will result in a £10 fine payable at the following AGM. 
  17. The League Committee shall be empowered to adjudicate on any matters arising, which are not specifically covered by any of the above rules. 

Dominoes, The Game

  1. See 15 above.
  2. (18)  A point is awarded to a team winning each hand played. In the event of a game being 'stopped' prior to completion a count shall be taken. The total of the two players shall count,  with the lowest total winning the point. In the event of a tied count, no point is awarded and the hand is replayed with the same down.  
  3. (19)  Should a player either play an incorrect domino or knock when able to play the point for that hand will immediately be awarded to the opposition. The down will move on. If an incorrect play is not noticed immediately and the game continues,before it is realised, if no one admits fault the hand is to be replayed. 
  4. (20)   The first pair to five points wins the game.

Fives & Threes,  The Game

 

  1. (21)  The marker shall, if possible, be provided by the home team. The marker shall supervise the down and be in charge of the game. The marker must ensure that the pin board is visible to all players, at all times. The marker should advise players of the state of play when the game nears completion.
  2. (22)   The game will be played until one pair reaches 61 points exactly. The winners must 'Die in the hole' Points are awarded when the total of the two ends of dominoes add up to a number divisable by five or three or both. An additional point is awarded to the player who is first to play all six dominoes.
  3. (23) If a hand is 'stopped' a count takes place as per dominoes. The lowest total receives one point. Should the count be tied no point is awarded and the down moves on.
  4. (24)   The game cannot be won on the down, but can be won on the count. 
  5. (25)  Any player knocking when able to play shall be pegged back five points.
  6.  (26) Any player playing an incorrect domino shall be pegged back five points. The incorrectly played domino shall remain, face down, on the table.It cannot be used for the remains of the hand but is added to a count. Should the player concerned play all their remaining dominoes there is no point awarded for finishing, but the hand is over.
  7. (27)  In the event of an incorrect domino being played and not noticed until later, if no 'culprit' can be agreed upon, the game must restart with the marker pins at zero. 

Cup Matches.

  1. (28)   Eight games to be played of the same format, on a one leg basis.
  2. (29)   Teams consist of a mnimum six players, playing eight games.
  3. (30)  In the event of a 4-4 tie a decider play-off is required . The captains must draw a pair for this eventuality , at the start of the match, using all team members in the draw.
  4. (31)  CHARLIE TRUEMAN & JOHN McINTYRE CUPS.  Substitutes may be used at one per pair up until the end of round two.
