SEASON 2010 - 2011 

Thank you for your support during the season.  It has been an exciting and fulfilling season in many respects.

Planning for next year is well under way and we will announce the programme on our slicker, more colourful and informative new web site.

The Institute, New Lanark, Sunday 3rd October 2010. Mathieson's Classic Jazz Band have become established as one of the world's leading interpreters of Jelly Roll Morton's music.   There is also a wealth of material in its library covering such diverse talents as Duke Ellington, Count Bassie, Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, Bix Biederbecke, Benny Carter, Benny Goodman, Bob Crosby, Slide Hampton etc. 

Greyfriars Church Friday 29th October. In 2009 at the age of 21, Adam Walker was appointed principal of the London Symphony Orchestra and received the Outstanding Young Artist Award at the MIDEM Classique Awards in Cannes.   Morgan Szymanski studied at the Royal College of Music and Conservatorium van Amsterdam.   He was the first guitarist to be awarded a Junior Fellowship of the Royal College of Music.   They will play (Adam on flute and Morgan on Guitar) a varied programme of music by Ponce, de Falla, Tarrega, Albeniz, Villa-Lobos, Bartok, Debussy, Lannarelli and Piazzolla.

Greyfriars Church Wednesday 24th November 2010 . South Korean born Young-Choon Park has enthralled audiences and critics the world over for the refinement and sensitivity of her playing.  She will perform Mozart's Sonata in B-flat major, KV.333, Beethoven's Sonata in F minor op.57 "Appassionata", and Sonata No.3 in B minor op.58 by Chopin.

 

Greyfriars Church Mondy 17th January 2011.In October 2009 the Idomeneo String Quartet won the Tunnell Trust Award which entitles them to a tour of Scotland in the 2010 - 2011 season.  They are proud to have bee awarded a Fellowship from The Guildhall School opf Music and Drama. They will play Shostakovich's String Quartet No3 in F major (Op.73), The String Quartet No. 14 in D minor (Death and the Maiden) by Franz Schubert and Hayden's quartet in C (Op 50, No 2).

Greyfriars Church Friday 18th February 2011.   Pure Brass have won the RSAMD Governors Chamber Music Prize, the Mary Admams Prize for Chamber Music, and the Norman Cooper Chamber Competition at the Abredeen International Festival and have recently been accepted onto the Enterprise Music Scotland Residency Project.   CLICK HERE for their programme or here for their web site.

Christ Church, Hope Street, Wednesday 16th March 2011. The Atrium Quartet was founded in 2000 in St Petersburg and has won two of the most prestigious International Competitions for String Quartet: First prize and Audience Prize of the 9th Londion International String Quartet Competition in 2003 and Grand-Prix of the 5th International String Quartet Competition in Bordeaux in 2007.  Tonight is a Russian Night - perhaps vodka at the interval!  The 3 quartets they will play are by Arensky (A minor Op. 35a), Shostakovich (A flat Op. 118) and Tchaikovsky (D major, Op. 11).

Clydesdale Inn, Wednesday, 9th March 2011. Simon Thoumire (Concertina) and Dave Milligan (Piano) An acknowledged concertina virtuoso, Simon Thoumire is always keen to explore different genres: and David Milligan, one of the highest regarded pianists in Scotland is principaly known as a jazz pianist.  Their music has a refreshing zest and sparkle that never flags.
