James Adams was born in 1971. After completing a degree in Fine Art (Sculpture), James started up his own business in London designing and making metal furniture and products for the retail market as well as undertaking various private commissions from architectural ironwork through to product design and sculpture, teaching himself the rudiments of Blacksmithing along the way.

By 2001 James was concentrating on producing his range of hand forged wrought iron curtain poles and finials for a distributor supplying department stores nationwide.

By late 2004 and after recording and releasing 3 Song based Albums ( see Music ), James decided to return to his roots in sculpture and painting and set up a workshop based in Highland Perthshire and a painting studio on the Isle of Skye.

Working in a naive style, James hopes to highlight the relationship between subject and viewer by expressing the feeling of childhood joy and abandonment, often through lofty or unusual perspectives.  His painting has an iconic quality, drawing upon a narrative within.  His subject matter often highlights a tension within the landscape, offering a haunting glimpse of a moment in time, or, in the case of his sculptures, creating a shadowy presence.  His sculptures also focus on technique, highlighting traditional methods of joining and working metal, be it riveting, chiselling or punching.

James's work is on display at several commercial galleries throughout Scotland and is held in various private collections throughout the world .
