02 April 2012

Inverness was well represented at the recent Edinburgh Congress, there were two entrants in the "Open", Richard Birkett scored 2.5 and Andrew Newton scored 2 points.

In the "Challengers" Kai Pannwitz finished on 1.5 and in the "Knights" both Callum and Sarah Birkett ended up with a very credible 2.5 each.

"

Well done to Callum Birkett for winning the top tournament, the Keith Hoban Trophy, it was stated at the prizegiving that every winner of this trophy has played in the Scottish Junior team, is this going to be Callums plans!.

Not to be out done, Sarah Birkett finished 2nd in the "Rising Stars" event, brilliant results considering neither play chess regularly at the moment, lets hope these results will inspire them to greater achievements!

NEJCA The Keith Hoban Memorial Trophy
24 March 2012

This event has just ended here at the Chieftain Hotel.

It was the busiest tournament to date with 55 entrants from as far away as Stornoway!, a big thanks must go to all the parents and teachers who brought the chess stars to Inverness and of course thanks to the A Team from NEJCA who ran this wonderful event.

A special mention must be made of the brilliant food and service we recieved from Liz and the team from the Cheiftain hotel. We all had the luxury of a hot meal served in record time during a quick lunch break. The menu was made up special for the event with the dishes all named after chess pieces!. It must also be mentioned that the venue was provide free of charge which makes this NEJCA event the cheapest in Scotland to enter!.

I have posted the photos of prize winners and the entrants in our "Photo" page and a full list of prize winners can be found on the NEJCA site soon.

Thank you to all who made this a brilliant day and also to the real stars, the entrants!.

NEJCA in Inverness
11 March 2012

The Keith Hoban Memorial Trophy is again being held at the Chieftain Hotel on Saturday March 24th at 10am.
It is a very prestigious Junior event and an early entry is recommended.
The entry form can be found here or you can call Arlene Grant (details are on the entry form) who will be able to give you all the details.
The event is expertly run by the team from NEJCA and is supported by the Chieftain hotel, it would be appreciated if all those attending respect the hotel is a business and  providing the venue for free, therefore it would be courteous if you bring your own food to the hotel please enjoy lunch off the premises.
There are going to be officials visiting from the Scottish Chess Association, a first for Inverness and I hope they will see how well attended NEJCA events are up here in the wilds!
See all you on the day.
