HISTORY

DOUGLASDALE PLAYERS

The Douglasdale Players are an amateur Musical Theatre Group based in the village of Douglas in South Lanarkshire.  The Group performs annually in March in the Douglas Primary School.

The shows are normally in the tradition of pantomime.  We often base our stories on traditional themes, but the scenes, story lines and humour are "Douglasised" to suit our audiences.

We are in our 30th year and were founded in 1979, when a few local people decided to write and perform a musical to raise funds for the bi-centenary celebrations of St. Brides Church in Douglas.  It was home grown, made some money and considered such a success that we did it again and again and again!

Over the years we have donated almost £40,000 to local causes, national charities and to many local groups.

The cast and production team consist of a wide range of persons, from primary and secondary school kids to pensioners and other retired persons, with a great cross section of the community.

2009 is out 30th Anniversary Show and our 30th year in the Douglas Primary School which will be demolished and a new school provided in 2009.

Please contact the Players for any further info.
