Annual Fun Day 2010
19 September 2010

The Fun Day of the Basset Hound Club of Scotland was its usual happy event with a nice turnout of bassets for this year’s Judge Mrs Fiona Nisbet who is well known for her Afghan hounds.   Show going basset owners will remember Fiona from the many days she spent on a trade stand at all the Championship shows around the country.   As usual, there was a fantastic spread of food provided by the Committee which we were assured by our Chairman was all calorie free!   No point in arguing!
Fiona found her most appealing young dog in Molly handled by Bradley with Billy Johnman again winning the Golden Oldie class for dogs with his 13 year old Hannah.   A good turnout for the Children’s Parade with the eventual winner being Bradley handling Molly, closely followed by Laura with Alice, Robbie with Maud, Alex with Baxter, Andrew showing Hector, Lauren with Hendry and Austin showing Dixie.   The photographic competition was won by the Steadman family, who are new to bassets.   The winner of this year’s Adult Handler was Graham Brennan with Captain Bert.   The theme for the Fancy Dress was ‘Insects’ and this closely fought class was won by Lindsay with Baxter as a bumble bee, Tina with her ‘swarm’ of wasps and Hector with Duncan as a ladybird.   Surprisingly, nobody came as a Scottish midge – but then we would all have been scratching!   Best Six Legs went to Kelly and Bertie with well matched pins.   The Twins class was hotly contested with all dogs being well matched – so well done to Bertie/Baxter, Mabel/Sienna, Maude/Molly and Dougal/Alice.   The Sausage Catching was fiercely contested with Graeme Brennan and Bert returning to defend their 3 year title.   However, they were pipped at the post by Sienna handled by David Foss and had to be content with a second this year.   Judges Special resulted in 13 year old Hannah almost going home with the Judge!   All agreed that they had had a fantastic day and we have had a number of compliments from new owners who came along for the first time.
