Club Information

Tweed Canoe Club generally takes on new members (aged 12 or over), with little or no canoeing experience in October each year when we run the swimming pool sessions through the winter. This provides a safe, warm environment in which to learn and also have fun. All kit is provided and all that you need is your swimming kit, a towel and money to cover the pool fee.

We teach all the basics in the pool at Galashiels and the following spring it's out onto the local rivers to put those skills to the test. We continue to provide coaching on the river and again all kit is provided for the river trips. The club has a small number of wetsuits but we do suggest that you buy your own once you decide that canoeing is for you.

In the UK the term 'canoeing' is applied generally but we are actually a kayak club - the difference being that a kayak user sits down with a double bladed paddle whilst a canoe user generally kneels with a single bladed paddle - like the open 'Canadian' canoes used by the old fur traders in Canada.

Mostly we paddle rivers, both locally and further afield.

Club nights are on Fridays and for the pool start at 7pm. The club is currently looking for new members (aged 12 or over) to start in October. Please contact us by clicking on the feedback link.

We look forward to hearing from you.

The Tweed Canoe Club is affilliated with the Scottish Canoe Association.
