1754. Oct. 8, Mr. Jacob (sic) Powell of Feversham (in Essex) buried.
NOTE.-I do not know of any David Powell to whom this last entry might refer. If, however, we suppose that the original be the correct entry, it might possibly refer to a certain Jacob Powell, the codicil of whose will is dated 4th Oct., 1754, in which he is described as of Stebbing, Essex, Butcher. He was a considerable landed proprietor in Essex, Norfolk, and London. From a letter I have from the Vicar of Stubbing, it would seem his burial was not registered there. I can find no Feversham in Essex. This Jacob, I have reason to think, was a descendant of the Clement Powell, of Saffron Walden, mentioned on page 8. The correction of the Register seems to have been made in a later hand than the original entry.

A child of John Powell's was buried in 1689, month and day unknown. Mr. Harris, Incumbent, dying, his papers wherein he entered down the burials were lost.

Catherine, widow of John Powell, who died 15th April, 1752, aged 84.
Henry Powell, who died 23 Sept., 1761, aged 63.
Henry Powell, who died 6 Feb., 1784, aged 50.
John Powell, who died 28 July, 1787, aged 94.
Martha, wife of John Powell, who died 7 Jan., 1768, aged 70.
The Barbary Powell mentioned in the above extracts as buried in 1606 was most probably the daughter of a certain Capt. David Powell, who married (26 Oct., 1589, at Boxted) Jane, daughter of William Poley. This Jane Powell was married to her second husband, William Crofts, at Little Saxham, 19th Dec., 1599, and after his death married, thirdly, John Aldham, of Sapiston, Suffolk, gent. Capt. David Powell was in the garrison of Bergen-up-Zoom in 1588, serving in the Low Countries under Sir Thomas Morgan, where he probably died. [Chancery, B. & A. Jac. I., A 8, No. 37. Aldham v. Vere.]
