The SCSRS is essentially a fiddle orchestra although we welcome other instruments.

The Society is always keen to welcome new members, whatever your musical background, and whether you be young or old. We aim to have a healthy complement of players to sustain the position of the orchestra as a leading Traditional Music Society in the Stirling area for many years to come.

Whilst we cannot cater for absolute beginners, we do provide mutual encouragement and support from the conductor and from amongst the members. If you are of moderate proficiency, you should fit in well with us and find that you quickly improve.

We recognise that a range of personal pursuits, such as playing an instrument, will often back seat because of work and family commitments. So, for those of you out there who may not have not had your fiddle out for some years, fear not! It is perfectly natural that "lapsed" fiddlers will be a bit rusty to begin with on resuming playing, but this passes after a couple of practice sessions.

We want to provide a great opportunity for fiddle players to enjoy their playing in a friendly and relaxed environment and, hopefully, add a new dimension to their lives.

If you are interested in joining us, why not drop us an email or give us a ring if you would like a private chat about it.  There are no auditions, just come along with your fiddle, music stand, a pencil and a smile and we will provide the music and companionship. Just like riding a bicycle, you will soon pick up where you left off.  A number of fiddlers have come out of "retirement" to join us recently and are thoroughly enjoying their music once again.

Each adult playing player is asked to pay an annual membership fee, currently set at £30 per anum. The membership fee covers the rental of hall and incidental costs such as the provision of sheet music. A reduced annual fee of £6 is set for those 18 years and under and for adults who are in full time education.

If you are unsure, why not come along for a few of nights without any commitment, even just to sit and listen if you prefer not to play right away.
