SAFEGUARDING
- Contacts: Harriet H-R and Sam C
The Catholic Church in England and Wales, the Bishops and Congregational Leaders are committed to safeguarding as an integral part of the life and ministry of the Church. We affirm the One Church approach to safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk through the promotion of a sustained and sustainable culture of constant vigilance.
The Church recognises the personal dignity and rights of all Vulnerable People towards whom it has a special responsibility. The Church and individual members of it undertake to take all appropriate steps to maintain a safe environment for all and to practice fully and positively Christ's Ministry towards children, young people and adults at risk and to respond sensitively and compassionately to their needs in order to help keep them safe from harm.
The Church authorities will liaise closely with statutory agencies to ensure that any allegations of abuse are promptly and properly responded to and where appropriate survivors supported and perpetrators held to account.
The Church wishes to ensure that its parishes and Religious Congregations have the confidence to enable vulnerable people to have peace of mind, knowing they will be cared for and loved by their Christian community.

ST.VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
The SVP is an international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing practical assistance to those in need – irrespective of ideology, faith, ethnicity, age or gender. The Society is a lay organisation initially formed in Paris in 1833 by Blessed Frédéric Ozanam and his companions, and active in England & Wales since 1844. Placed under the Patronage of St Vincent de Paul, it is inspired by his thinking and works. It seeks, in the spirit of justice and charity, to help those who are suffering poverty in whatever form.

UNION OF CATHOLIC MOTHERS
Meet every 3rd Wednesdays each month 7:30pm - alternating business & social meetings.
New members welcome
The St Columba’s Foundation is part of the national Union of Catholic Mothers and is open to all Catholic and Christian women, married or single, mothers or not. We meet twice a month to socialise and discuss national and local issues concerning women and family life. We also raise money for our annual charity through a quiz night each year to involve the whole parish – just one of the ways in which we try to be an active group within St Columba’s. Our programme of events and information about the UCM are posted on the church notice board. It’s a great way to extend your friendship group and meet more people within the parish.
