Unable To Take My Key Out Of The Lock When Locked
by Derek Mercer - 08:18 on 03 July 2022

On occassions lockkeys locksmiths Warrinton recieve calls from cutomers who are unable to get their key out of the lock when it is locked althought the lock itself appears to be working ok. This problem is normally caused by what we call a misaligned cam.
As you can see from the picture above the cam when in the locked or open position normally sits at the bottom of the lock at either 5 or 7 oclock this allows the key to come out of the lock.
However on a misaligned cam the cam sits in the 11 or 1 oclock position and this is why the customer is unable to release the key when the door is locked. The problem is normally caused by a key being left on the inside of the lock and someone using a key on the outside of the lock.
The problem is easily solved but requires a new euro cylinder to be fitted and of course the customer should remember not to leave a key on the inside of the lock.
