Milehouse 26-28 February
09 March 2010

Drumochter had been closed for 2 days, but it reopened on the Friday afternoon, allowing Nigel & Catriona, Morven, and Heather & Sen to separately arrive, the first 3 staying in Insh Hall because Milehouse was allegedly full. The other club failed to turn up. It later transpired that they were snowed in at the Raeburn Hut and couldn't get out at all. The Lyons and Donald Shiach arrived in the morning.

The back roads were difficult, so track skiing in Inshriach forest was the focus. Snow was shin deep with skis on, so breaking trail was hard work, as was finding the trails in the more open woodland. Other skiers had been out, so there were some tracks already. Weather sunny and cold.

Sunday was similar, but the attempt to drive to Aclean failed just beyond the airfield, as the road had not been ploughed. More skiing in the forest.

Nigel & Catriona stayed on for 2 extra days, experiencing more good weather. On Monday they skied from the Cas car park to skin up Lurchers to the lip of the Lairig Ghru. Snow cover was fantastic, but the ski down was challenging, with variable snow condition and very flat light. The Plateau was in fog.

Tuesday was idyllic weather, blue sky and no wind all day. Visibitlity was unsurpassed in all directions. Skied up Glen Mharcaigh from the Feshie airfield up onto Geal Charn (920m). A memorable day. It had to be because we forgot the camera.
