Week Commencing 14th August

Monday 15th.  The successful season at Caldercraig continued tonight with our retaining the Airdrie League Knock Out Fours trophy with a fine 3-0 victory over Springwells. The Airdrie & Coatbridge Leagues Challenge Cup against the Coatbridge champions will be played at Glenmavis on Thursday 18th with a 6.30pm start.

Tuesday 16th.  The gents pairs defending champions (Ross & Jim) continued in their mission to repeat last year's success by comfortably winning their quarter-final tie in the MBA Championships at Calderbank. The quarter finals were all played this evening with our gents triples team  in action at Springwells but they were beaten but Janie Kyle played at Gartsherrie in the ladies singles competition and won through to the semi finals by the narrowest of margins.

Wednesday 17th. Disappointment was etched on the faces of our players and spectators tonight when we lost both of our penultimate Lanarkshire League matches at home. Div 4 were hosts to Quarter and lost by 2 - 4 whilst the Div 14 team lost by a similar score to Hamilton Caledonian.

Thursday 18th.  There was no repeat of last year's success in the final of the Airdrie & Coatbridge Leagues Challenge Cup when we lost to a better team on the day at Glenmavis. Gartsherrie were worthy winners by 2-0 with one game halved.

Friday 19th. The league placings with only one game left make very interesting reading. In Div 4, Quarter, who beat us on Wednesday evening, lead the table by 1 point. There is a 3-way tie for 2nd place between ourselves, Chryston & Shettleston. Unfortunately our last game (against Larkhall, 1 point behind us) was postponed due to our waterlogged green. The Div 14 league is still not settled. Overtown are now only 3 points clear of Carluke with ourselves 1 point further back. Our game against Whitemoss is critical and a full points win does not guarantee a league title, but anything is still possible.

Late news: Unfortunately our hopes of a good win were scuppered at Whitemoss when we only managed to gain 2 points. The Div 4 game against Larkhall has been re-scheduled for 6.15pm on Wednesday 24th August.

Saturday 20th. The semi-finals of the MBA championships were due to be played this afternoon at Whifflet & Airdrie Central but once again the weather intervened. The Whifflet green was declared unplayable so Janie Kyle will have to wait a few more days to play her game. Meanwhile, our gents pairs did go ahead at the Central green in very difficult conditions. Jim Purves had to withdraw and he was replaced by Derek Phillips. Unfortunately Ross & Derek lost at the last end having led for most of the game.
