Fair Shield results

The foul weather  this summer did not prevent the club having a very succesful Fair Shield competition again this year. The players all had to put up with some of the worst weather we have had to contend with over a good numbr of years and they must all be congratulated for making the competition such a success and completing it on time. In the semi finals Derek Phillips had a fine game to defeat Fraser Gillespie and in the other Dave McIntyre overcame a good opponent in George Tobin. In the final Dave got off to a great start but Derek is nothing if not competitive and he managed to take the lead at the penultimate end. In the last end David tried everything but he could not better his younger opponent who ran out a well deserved and popular winner against his much more experienced opponent. Everyone who took part in the final evening (including the volunteer markers who at least were able to shelter under their umbrellas) deserved the plaudits of those who turned up to watch. The final evening of this popular competition is traditionally followed by the President's Buffet and President Ian Baxter, his wife and everyone who assisted them were applauded by all those who partook of the fine fare. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped to make this a year's Fair Shield such a resounding success.

Derek Phillips
