DAVID STACEY R.I.P.
It is with great regret I must inform fans of the passing of David Stacey.
I was a member of the Football Programme Directory for many years and attended many Programme Fairs, I even had the pleasure of inviting Mr Stacey to one of Barkingsides home games back when I was Chairman (although he did receive a hostile welcome from the Secretary and was not best pleased with Tony Fenns actions on the day in the boardroom) that said David enjoyed the game all the same even though Side were beaten on the day.
The last time I saw David was at a recent Foptball Auction where he still had alot of desire for the lots that were being sold.
I have received knowledge that Gary Enderby will be taking over the FPD to keep it going.
David Staceys History;
David Stacey of David Stacey Publications dealt for many years but it was the Programme Fairs that first started in the late 70s at Crystal Palaces Social Halls that he really came into his own.
The stall sold Internationals Finals Foreign, European plus English and Scottish programmes to name but a few.
Not only being a football dealer though, David was the Chairman of the Southern Division of the National Federation of Football Supporters Clubs, Honoury Secretary of the 1966 World Cup Association, Honoury Publicity Officer for the England Football Team Supporters Association, a member of several Referees Societys and was on the Committee of the Southend and District Wednesday Football League.
Living in Wickford for many years you could often find David at mid-week Southend games helping out in the Club Shop.
And at the 2nd Programme fair had the chance to rub shoulders with other big programme dealers including John Dee (who founded Sportingold and John Dee Programmes), John Daniels and Martin Corrie.
David will be sorely missed by the game and he is in our thoughts.
