Furniture made from Oak is now by far the most popular choice with our customers in Edinburgh. Oak furniture is renouned for being strong, hardwearing and has an attractive grain of which no two pieces look the same.

Most of our furniture in the oak collections come made from solid oak, however in a couple of the ranges we use real oak veneers, this doesn't detract from it's durability but ensures that your item's won't crack.

"Oak Veneers?" I hear you say " I don't think so, not for me!"

Well let me tell you over the years our suppliers have learn't that certain types of oak move more than others therefore it would be irresponsible for for them just to use solid oak on all items.

For example in the Cramond Red Oak collection the centre of all the tops of every unit is a real oak veneer, the rest of each piece is 100% solid oak i.e. the frame work, runners and sides, the reason is to eradicate the item splitting after 3-6 months of it living in your home.

Each home has a different humidity level, often changing through the seasons dramatically, real solid wood e.g. oak, expands and contracts with this change therefore in the red oak collection a real wood veneer is glued onto high density man made wood to prevent splitting.

Real wood veneers are also used on the Pentland Oak Furniture collection, this to be honest also keeps costs and weight down, although in the case of the Pentland Oak furniture range you really wouldn't notice as this contemporary and stylish oak furniture range is very heavy. Using veneers is in no way detrimental to the quality of the product and these tried and tested manufacturers have been around for ages, they know a lot more than either you or me on what to use in their manufacturing factories.
