Departed Friends .... our tribute

Lest we forget

In the course of all the preparations being made for this reunion we have been given reason to reflect on the sad fact that there are many of our former school friends that have passed away since we all left school.

After much thought and a great deal of support from others, we have decided to dedicate a page of the website to the memory of school friends that are no longer with us.

Time was not on the side of those we mourn.  It is all too true that they were cut off in the threshold of their lives.  There are no words that can adequately express the sadness of losing friends so young, but these few words from the poem "What is Death" by Henry Scott Holland may give us all something to reflect on as we remember these friends.

Laugh as we always laughed.  At the little jokes we enjoyed together

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me

Let my name ever be the household word that it always was

Let it be spoken without affect, without the trace of a shadow on it

Life means all that it ever meant.  It is the same as it ever was

There is absolutely unbroken continuity.

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?

As we prepare ourselves for our reunion and to meeting up with old friends and the reliving of old memories, we ask that we all take some time to remember those school friends that are no longer with us and who will not have the opportunity to share these memories, of which they were all very much part of.

It would be difficuilt to personalise this page as we would not want to upset anyone, but perhaps sometime in the future it may be possible.

 Lest we forget
