Wendy Abbott 

I am mainly a self taught photographer. In 1988 I was awarded a grant from The Princess Trust and I worked for a time as a PR photographer when I lived in Brighton. My early personal projects and main interest was in portraits of people I met. From 1989 to 1993 I attended a formal course at The Polytechnic of Central London, gaining a BA (hons) in Photography. I continued to take portraits on this course, however in my final year I discovered a passion for landscape. Since completing my degree I have continued with both landscape & portraits.  

SOLO SHOWS 

1988        ‘Portraits’ – an exhibition of 30 black & white prints of Brighton residents. (The Frock & Jacket, Brighton). 

1996        ‘Lands of Light’ – an exhibition of colour landscape work from the UK to the Caribbean. (Havant Arts Centre, Hampshire).

1997        ‘Lands of Light’ – shown at the Birchington Library, Kent.

GROUP SHOWS/OPENS 

1990        ‘The Sussex Artists Open’ – work shown in the annual show, Brighton Museum.

1993     ‘In pursuit of….’ Graduate exhibition at The Worx Gallery, London.

1995      ‘View West’ open at Watermans Art Gallery, Brentford, Middlesex.

1996      ‘Portsmouth Artists Open’ – work shown in Portsmouth Museum. 

1996      ‘Similar Differences’ - exchange show organised by Quay Arts, Isle of Wight.

Work shown in galleries/museums in UK, USA & Germany.

1999     ‘Photos for the Future’ work selected for exhibition and publication in ‘The History Channel project’ (www.historychannel.co.uk)
