CHRIS'S BOWLING

TIME LINE:

pre 1985:   Taken to a bowling centre whilst I was growing up in my native Canada.

1985:  Taken to a bowling centre in Crawley for my first 'grown-up' games (34-85-49 for a 168 series !!).

1987: Commenced League bowling at Lewisham, bowling each Sunday evening for the three-person Stars In Stripes team, within the Rainham Sports League (RSL)                                                                  Rolled my first '200' scratch game (217).

1993: Competed for the RSL in the annual tournament against another League stationed in Bexhill-on-Sea.   The RSL won.

1996: Elected RSL Treasurer.

1997: The RSL disbanded.   Commenced bowling with the Twilight League (TL) each Wednesday evening at Lewisham.

1999: Received the TL Sportsmanship Award after coming first in a poll of TL members.

2003: Took part in the Corporate Games (held that year in Long Benton nr Newcastle-Upon-Tyne), representing the TL.                    Won a runners-up medal in the (four man) handicap event.           Pinfall Wizards won the TL Team H'p Series (Nigel Campey & me).

2004: The Twilight League split into two. I commenced bowling in the new Twilight Doubles League (TDL) every Thursday.                          Was elected its first Secretary.

2005: TDL title won by my team, Pinfall Wizards.  Afterwards, I left to bowl in Croydon and joined the Wednesday Doubles League (WDL).

2006: With Les Jarvis, won the WDL title for the 'Hoovers' team.

2007: Rolled my 100th scratch 200+ game (in all competitions).

2008:     Took part in the 47th BTBA National Championships, held at Tolworth, finishing 106th out of 119 partnerships in the Men's Division B with Les Jarvis.

Participated in the BTBA sanctioned Singles/Trios event at Purley Bowl.  With handicaps added, I finished 6th from 21 bowlers.         'Union Strikers' trio (Les Jarvis, Rob Joy & myself) came 7th in the team event.

Rolled my best ever scratch series during league play at City Limits.

2009: Took part in the 48th BTBA Nationals, held this time at Romford, Essex, but without my usual bowling partner due to his ill health.  Hooked up with Joel Deacon for the Mens Doubles event (Division B).

Received formal coaching from both John Hobbs (Charrington Bowl -Tolworth) & Rob Bruce (City Limits - Croydon) in my attempt to convert from backup bowling with a conventional grip to hook bowling with finger tip.
